| Cross Catholic is responding to the great need of the world's orphans by partnering with churches and ministries in developing countries. |
Thousands of orphaned and vulnerable children struggling to survive in poverty-stricken conditions around the world. These children are AIDS orphans, runaways, street beggars, abandoned babies, displaced war victims, and economic orphans. Though they come from different parts of the globe and endure different hardships, they share one burden: As mere children they must face the pressures of adulthood - alone. Abused, neglected, and vulnerable to all kinds of mistreatment, these children struggle to survive.
What:
A campaign to bring "new life" to orphans and vulnerable children in desperate need of care in the developing world. In the spirit of Lent, Cross International Catholic Outreach partners annually with parishes around the country to provide food, shelter, education, medical care, and the love of Christ to these forgotten children.
When:
The campaign runs the six weeks of Lent, ending on Easter Sunday.
Where:
Cross Catholic provides help to orphans and vulnerable children on all corners of the globe - from AIDS orphans in Mozambique to abandoned babies in Ecuador and street children in Haiti and the Philippines - through a variety of care programs.
Why:
Children are hit hardest by the developing world's poverty. Those trying to survive on their own fare even worse. Over and over in the Bible we see Christ's special love for and attention to children. According to James 1, helping orphans when they are in distress is "religion pure and undefiled before God." In Matthew 18 Jesus tells his disciples, "Whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me." What better time to heed these words than during the Lenten season as we reflect on how Christ came to earth to share his life with us, giving us new life.
