Our Annual Fund Drive Allows You to Share Christ’s Mercy With Those in Deepest Need

As the death toll from the Sept. 8 earthquake in Morocco mounts, Pope Francis is calling on Catholics to provide “concrete help” and “be close to the people of Morocco.”

Moved by the extent of the destruction and loss of life, Cross Catholic Outreach has rushed emergency funds to local Catholic churches to provide urgent relief to survivors.

The magnitude-6.8 earthquake was the worst earthquake in a century to hit Morocco, which has been a strong U.S. ally since our nation’s founding.

Your gift to our Annual Fund Drive will allow Catholic ministries to respond quickly and effectively to this and other urgent needs around the world.

When you reach out to the poor with urgently needed relief, you will be honoring Jesus!

For more than 20 years, your support has enabled us to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty and so much more.

See the wonderful impact your compassion makes — and learn how you can continue to bless needy families through the Corporal Works of Mercy.

Fruits of Your Faith in Action

Immediate relief and long-term change happen thanks to YOU!

Nutritious Food

One way you feed the hungry is by helping Cross Catholic Outreach ship Vitafood to countries in the developing world. Vitafood is nutritious, delicious and a cost-effective way to end hunger. We are positioned to provide millions of meals each year, and your gift to the Annual Fund Drive will make that mission a success!

Disaster Relief

When Hurricane Fiona devastated the Dominican Republic last year, thousands of people lost everything. With help from U.S. Catholics, we were able to respond without delay, supplying food, blankets and other emergency items. Your support will provide Catholic disaster relief through our ministry partners worldwide.

Because of friends like you, children such as 13-year-old Maryori in Guatemala can receive a quality Catholic education. Last year, we were able to provide 4,425 scholarships! Your generosity equips poor students to achieve their dreams and work toward a future free from poverty.

Make a Global Impact

When you give to Cross Catholic Outreach, you share hope where it’s needed most. Together, we empower ministry partners in developing countries to make a lasting difference in the lives of the poor — all for the glory of God!

Frequently Asked Questions

More than 2,800 people are confirmed dead, but the total number of fatalities and injuries is impossible to know as search and rescue efforts continue in the aftermath of the earthquake.

What makes the numbers especially uncertain is that many of the affected communities are in remote mountain areas that rescue workers are struggling to access.

The impact of the earthquake — the worst to hit Morocco in 120 years — was catastrophic. It leveled homes, damaged many historic buildings and churches, made roads impassable, and destroyed entire villages.

While the epicenter of the magnitude 6.8 quake was south of the city of Marrakech, it was felt as far north as Casablanca, and the most devastating impact was inflicted on remote communities at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. That remoteness has slowed rescuers from reaching thousands of people who remain injured or unaccounted for, especially now that the damage from the quake has made travel even more difficult.

The United Nations estimated that 300,000 people were affected by the quake. Many lost homes and loved ones, and many have been sleeping outside out of fear of aftershocks. While there is no way to know at this point exactly how many people are in need of emergency aid, there is no doubt that many thousands are in a critical situation.

Cross Catholic Outreach is preparing to send an emergency grant to bolster the efforts of local Catholic leaders to provide aid to survivors. As always, our strategy is to work through local dioceses, parishes, missions and aid organizations rather than impose our own programs from afar.

As we continue to assess the situation and the need, we will determine whether to provide additional support for relief and recovery.

One way you can help is by joining us in praying for God’s mercy on the people of Morocco. Pray that rescue workers quickly locate any remaining injured, and pray that displaced families find food, water, shelter and medical care.

You can also help by giving to Cross Catholic Outreach’s Most Urgent Needs fund. Your generosity makes it possible for us to respond to natural disasters and save lives.
