Delivering food, shelter, and hope to the poorest of the poor
Sister Brikti Tesfay of the Daughters of Charity sends us thanks from Ethiopia, where Cross Catholic Outreach is funding a project to help vulnerable women attain financial stability.
Sr. Brikti writes:
Working with the poor is morally empowering. Every day I listen to their stories. When I let them narrate their stories, I see on their faces some relief. I see also the suffering Christ in them.
Thanks to the generous support of Cross Catholic, from July to December we provided 53 marginalized women sheep/goats, chickens and hybrid cows; the total beneficiaries of the project in the year being 63. That has helped us to serve Christ in these poor women. As a result of the support given, their morals have been improved, their faith has deepened in Christ, and witnessing the improvement and change gives me consolation and hope.
When I see moral improvement, deep faith of the poor, I feel we are contributing towards our mission serving Christ in our sisters and brothers. This in turn helps me to trust in God and to stand firm in my vocation and continue with zeal and love serving Christ in persons who are poor.
