San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone Joins CCO Board

Cross Catholic Outreach is unique among all U.S. Catholic Charities. In addition to having the status of Juridic Personhood within the Universal Catholic Church, our Board of Directors is composed of bishops and archbishops who provide Episcopal oversight of our work on behalf of the poorest of the poor around the world.

Earlier this month, Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone of the Archdiocese of San Francisco was voted onto the Board of Directors, succeeding the late Bishop Richard Garcia (Diocese of Monterey), who was a member of our board for eight years up until the time he passed away last year.

Upon joining the board, Archbishop Cordileone commented, “I look forward to helping Cross Catholic in its collaboration with the Universal Catholic Church and its support of the charitable works of the Holy Father.”

Before joining the board, Archbishop Cordileone was one of more than 100 U.S. Catholic bishops who endorsed the ministry of Cross Catholic. In his 2013 endorsement, Archbishop Cordileone wrote, “Pope Francis has taught us we should be mindful of the poor and see the suffering Christ in them. Your ministry stands as a bold example of that teaching. Also by having a strong Board of Directors including 7 bishops and Cardinal O’Brien as your Patron, you reflect the transparency and accountability so necessary in charitable works today.”

The board now comprises Archbishop Thomas Rodi (Chair), Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, Archbishop Robert Carlson, Bishop Joseph Strickland, Bishop Carl Kemme, Bishop Alfred Schlert, Bishop Ronald Gainer and President/Co-Founder Jim Cavnar.
