Thank you for Cross Catholic Outreach’s continued work of charity and assistance to those in need. The endorsement letters from the U.S. Catholic Bishops that accompanied your email are a testimony to the commitment of Cross Catholic Outreach to answer our Lord’s call in the Gospel of St. Matthew to care for “the least of these” (Mt. 25:40), those who Christ identifies with His very self.

As our Holy Father Pope Francis has untiringly emphasized, “The principle of the common good immediately becomes, logically and inevitably, a summons to solidarity and a preferential option for the poorest of our brothers and sisters” (Laudato Si, # 158). May the work of Cross Catholic Outreach continue to bear fruit in this essential service and charitable witness in the coming days.

With gratitude for your valuable communication and collaboration, I take this opportunity to renew my assurance and deepest respect.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Card. Peter K. A. Turkson

Cross Catholic Recognized at Vatican Press Conference

Pope Francis established a commission with the theme “Preparing the future through the local Churches during the COVID-19 pandemic.” At a recent Vatican press conference updating the media on the COVID-19 crisis, Cardinal Peter Turkson recognized Cross Catholic Outreach. There, he identified us as one of the organizations answering the Holy Father’s call to remember the poor in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic through our support of the Populorum Progressio Foundation.

We have a number of important grants that are helping the affected countries, especially in Latin America. While the need in the U.S. is great, the situation in developing countries is even more desperate. In Guatemala, for example, thousands of families are seeking food and assistance by fashioning white flags out of torn fabric and sticks and flying them outside their homes or waving them in the streets as a symbol of emergency. To meet their needs, Cross Catholic has provided food relief. Our in-country ministry partners wrote, “We are so blessed to have Cross Catholic Outreach’s support in providing food so that we can give desperate families something to eat.”
