Delivering food, shelter, and hope to the poorest of the poor
Food insecurity has grown because of COVID and hurricane destruction. You can help.
This Christmas season, our ministry partners all over the world are saying their services are in big demand — and they are concerned about their ability to provide extra help. With the COVID-19 pandemic still rampaging, economies floundering, and hurricanes and other natural disasters adding to the chaos, the demand for food relief is greater than ever before.
According to a new UN report, hunger now affects 42.5 million people in Latin America and the Caribbean. The number of people in Latin America and the Caribbean living in extreme poverty could surpass 83 million this year due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. This could lead to a significant rise in hunger.
Because of COVID-19, the World Food Program (WFP) now projects that 14 million people will be threatened with severe food shortages this year. The UN food agency also reports many migrants in South America affected by COVID-19 lockdowns are unprotected by government social protection.

When deadly Hurricane Eta and Iota made landfall in Nicaragua earlier this month, the deadly storms killed hundreds of people as they destroyed infrastructure and hurt rural livelihoods in Belize, Guatemala and Honduras. The WFP and other humanitarian organizations have predicted that in the Dry Corridor of Central America alone, close to 3 million people will suffer from food insecurity by the end 2020. But even with such an overwhelming need, there are ways this Christmas season that you can help us do the most good.
Give today: Help Families Impacted by Hurricanes Eta & Iota
This year, you have the opportunity to join the fight against world hunger by selecting a gift of food from the Cross Catholic Outreach Christmas Catalog. This isn’t an ordinary retail catalog full of ordinary gift items. These are truly meaningful gifts to help the poor — gifts for children and families in need that have difficulty obtaining even the basic necessities.
What a wonderful blessing the gift of food brings, as it fights chronic hunger among the poor! Just look through the catalog and choose a gift of lifesaving food that will be distributed to schools, orphanages, rescue centers, community-based missions and local partners around the world.
Give lifesaving food through our Christmas Catalog, and your gift will be doubled, thanks to a match by two generous donors!*
*Until midnight on December 31, any gift of food from the Christmas Catalog, up to $25,000, will be matched by generous benefactors.
As defined by the USDA, “food insecurity” is a “disruption to food intake or eating patterns due to lack of money or other resources.” It is estimated that over 2 billion people do not have access to safe, nutritious and sufficient food, including 8% of the population in North America and Europe.
Although we’ve made huge strides aiding the poor, approximately 10% of the world’s population still lives in extreme poverty. Whenever our brothers and sisters lack basic human needs, such as clean water, nutrition, health care, education, clothing and shelter, we have an obligation to help them. In fact, it is what our Lord commands.
Through collaborations with our ministry partners, Cross Catholic Outreach mobilizes the global Catholic Church to transform the poor and their communities materially and spiritually for the glory of Jesus Christ. Take part in this ministry of mercy to feed bodies and nourish souls.
Every month (on the 25th)
Proceeds from this campaign will be used to cover any expenditures incurred through June 30, 2024, the close of our ministry’s fiscal year. In the event that more funds are raised than needed to fully fund the project, the excess funds, if any, will be used to meet the most urgent needs of the ministry.
Our mission is to mobilize the global Catholic Church to transform the poor and their communities materially and spiritually for the glory of Jesus Christ. Your gift empowers us to serve the poorest of the poor by channeling life-changing aid through an international network of dioceses, parishes and Catholic missionaries. This cost-effective approach helps break the cycle of poverty and advance Catholic evangelization.
