Delivering food, shelter, and hope to the poorest of the poor
Monday, August 15, will be Cross Catholic Outreach’s Day of Prayer in 2022. Every year, the ministry commemorates the Assumption of Mary into heaven with this Day of Prayer to bless its supporters and friends. The event also recognizes and honors the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a Holy Day of Obligation in the Catholic Church.
Key Takeaways
The Catholic Church venerates Mary as a heavenly advocate who brings our prayers to Jesus (Revelation 5:8). We bring our petitions to her, and through her blessing they are heard by the Lamb of God. Every year on the Day of Prayer, Cross Catholic Outreach staff pray together to intercede for the specific intentions of our donors, our ministry partners and the poor.
Cross Catholic Outreach encourages all our donors and friends to join us in prayer on that day. We are always eager to have prayer support for the poor and for our efforts to break the cycle of poverty among children and families in need. Whether you pray for a specific community to be uplifted or all poor around the world, we are honored to have your voice join ours.
As you consider joining us in prayer, consider the reflections of St. Faustina: “To give worthy praise to the Lord’s mercy, we unite ourselves with Your Immaculate Mother. Through her, streams of grace flowed down upon us.”
Almighty God, from the beginning of creation, you have filled the world with your abundant blessings. May we never cease to thank you for your provision.
Lord Jesus, you came to teach us how to love one another and to be good stewards of your many gifts. You gave us new Gospel values by which to measure our lives. It is only by generously sharing ourselves and our God-given gifts that we find true joy and peace.
Holy Spirit, you have given us your wisdom. Empower us with your gifts and graces so we can make a difference in the world, especially among those most in need.
Bless our Cross Catholic donors and friends who assist us in fulfilling the mission and vision that you, O God, have called us to. We know our resources will only have a transformative impact when they are empowered by you, the Provider and Sustainer of all things. May your love and grace fall like dewfall on those who share of their financial resources so that through their sacrifices, our brothers and sisters in need can receive physical and spiritual assistance and see the love of Christ in action. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
On the Day of Prayer, our staff will lift up the prayer requests of our friends and supporters to the Lord. If you would like to submit a prayer request to the CCO ministry team, please click here.
Know too – this special day is only part of our ministry’s commitment to worship and prayer. In fact, each workday at Cross Catholic Outreach begins with communal prayer. Additionally, we set aside time on Tuesday mornings to pray for the specific intentions of our donors we have gathered on prior weeks.
It is an honor and a privilege to lift your requests to heaven and to keep you in our hearts every day.
Through the Day of Prayer, our ministry hopes to further its mission of mobilizing the global Catholic Church to improve the lives of the poor around the globe materially and spiritually for the glory of Jesus Christ. As Catholics, it is our duty to share the great news of Jesus’ sacrifice with every community and show firsthand how God’s love can radically transform their lives. Gifts from our donors empower us to serve the poorest of the poor in dozens of developing countries around the world.
Our unique approach utilizes and empowers an international network of dioceses, parishes and Catholic missionaries already hard at work in the communities they serve. By working with local Catholic ministries, we provide the support they need to break the cycle of poverty and advance Catholic evangelization.
