Garret has served as Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator, District Deputy and various other state-level positions in his 20 years as a Knight. Now, he is serving in a new capacity, engaging his fellow Knights in works to feed the hungry.

Light on a Knight – March 2024

Garret Kelenske is a member of Holy Rosary Council No. 13579 located in Muskegon, Michigan, and this year celebrates 20 years of service in the Order during which time he has held several leadership positions. Currently, Garret serves as Michigan Jurisdiction State Cross Catholic Outreach Director, the only position of its kind in the United States. In this role, Garret’s passion and ability to inspire Knights in Michigan to feed the poor has helped in Cross Catholic Outreach’s efforts to combat the hunger crisis.

This past summer, Garret learned that by partnering with Cross Catholic Outreach his community could help feed hungry families in developing countries. One month later, Garret and Knight Mike Dompierre spearheaded the first Michigan Knights food packing event on October 1 in Novi, a suburb of Detroit. The success of this first event led to more interest and two follow-up events have been scheduled in Lansing and Grand Rapids. Garret’s conviction has led Knights throughout the state to put their faith in action!

Of these food packing events, Garret said, “I have found the food packing program to be both challenging and fulfilling. It is an opportunity to make a difference, both for the people who receive the life-giving nourishment, and for those who donate their time to the program. This gift of charitable works is a win-win for all involved.”

We are grateful for Garret’s dedication to this work of mercy and are proud to feature him as this month’s “Light on a Knight”.
