Make a Collection Box

Adeline Joseph is a Haitian mother who has experienced the weight of seeing her child in poor living conditions, unable to go to school and hungry. Adeline has been praying for a change — and we can empower partners in Haiti to answer that prayer.

Cross Catholic Outreach can provide you with collection boxes upon request — or your family can make one — to collect money that will help build homes, feed families and educate children.

Together, we can ensure that Adeline, her children and others like them receive food, a new home and education. Help make a difference this Advent by making and filling a collection box!

Creating Your Family’s Box

Materials needed:

  • Cardboard box/empty container
  • Wrapping paper/butcher paper
  • Scissors
  • Markers (optional, for decorating)

Directions:

  1. Start by wrapping a small cardboard box or empty container in Christmas wrapping paper or butcher paper.
  2. Cut a hole in the center of the box.
  3. Get creative and decorate your box!
  4. Throughout Advent, put money into your collection box.

At the end, add up your funds and either mail in your donation or send the amount you collected via an online donation.

Ideas for Raising Funds

While creating your collection box, decide as a family how you’re going to fill it. Here are two ideas:

  • Give up a little treat you would normally have each week. Put the cost of that treat into your collection box. For example, if a parent passes on having a coffee and a child passes on enjoying a hot chocolate, add $10 to the box.
  • Put money into the box each time a child completes a chore.

Michele Sagarino, president of Cross Catholic Outreach, has nearly three decades of experience in nonprofit leadership. After graduating from the University of Maryland, Michele answered the call on her life to begin service for various charitable organizations, including Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Gateway Community Outreach and Food For The Poor. She joined Cross Catholic Outreach in 2004 and served as vice president for development for 15 years. Through the years, Michele has been an important leader in the organization. Her expertise and heart for service will continue to lead us forward with wisdom and integrity, allowing us and our donors to impact even more lives.

Donations from this campaign will be used to cover any expenditures for this project incurred through June 30, 2027, the close of our ministry’s fiscal year. In the event that more funds are raised than needed to fully fund the project, the excess funds, if any, will be used to meet the most urgent needs of the ministry.
