BOCA RATON, Fla. – Oct. 26, 2025 – The Florida-based relief and development ministry Cross Catholic Outreach has launched an emergency response to help families in the Caribbean affected by Hurricane Melissa.
The ministry is working closely with trusted Catholic partners on the ground to deliver critical aid, including food, medicine, and housing supplies. Partners include the Diocese of Mandeville in Jamaica, as well as multiple partners in the Dominican Republic. The effort may expand after a needs assessment.
“Our hearts and prayers are with all those impacted by Hurricane Melissa,” said Michele Sagarino, president of Cross Catholic Outreach. “In times of disaster, the Church has a unique role to play — to be the hands and feet of Christ for those who are hurting. Every gift we receive allows us to reach more families with lifesaving help and the hope of God’s love.”
Cross Catholic Outreach has a long history of mobilizing quickly after natural disasters in the Caribbean and Latin America, partnering with local in-country Catholic priests, religious and lay leaders who can swiftly identify needs and distribute aid directly to families.
“We are deeply grateful to our ministry partners who are already serving in the hardest-hit areas,” Sagarino added. “They remind us that, even in tragedy, faith and compassion can bring light into the darkest situations.”
