Recently, Cross Catholic Outreach received a report that really touched me. It was about a little 1-year-old child named Cristal who showed up at a small local clinic we partner with in Estelí, Nicaragua. Her mother, Maria, was in a panic. “What can I do?” she asked. She told the clinic’s pediatrician, Dr. Soza, that Cristal had been having breathing problems.
God Bless our Good Samaritans!
In February I had the wonderful opportunity of visiting the 40 residents of Bon Samaritan (Good Samaritan) Elderly Care Home in Ouanaminthe, Haiti. After sharing a hot lunch together, I was able to capture their joy as Cross Catholic staff distributed new wheelchairs, donated by one of our generous supporters.
Dreams to Heal
Kenasda Lafortune dreams of becoming a doctor. “I would like to help people when they are sick,” she told me, as we chatted in her schoolyard in Haiti’s rural Central Plateau.
“God…is on the side of the weak and meek”
Sister Fabiola Jolanta Lech, a midwife with the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit, provides health care for poor, rural Ethiopian families at the Cross Catholic Outreach-funded Minne Health Post. Recently, Sr. Fabiola wrote to us about how God is using her to make a difference:
Physical and Spiritual Sustenance
The sun has just risen over the green hills of Haiti’s Central Plateau and already hundreds of people can be found gathered within the compound of SOLT Kobonal Haiti Mission. Sitting on wooden benches, lying beneath shade trees—they all carry empty sacks, waiting for the mission’s Emergency Survival Program’s food distribution to begin.
Under Construction
Cross Catholic President Jim Cavnar recently traveled to Croix-de-Bouquets, Haiti, where he met with Monsignor Jean Pierre of the Archdiocese of Miami to have a look at the ongoing construction of a new Cross Catholic-supported health clinic.
