Our work at Cross Catholic has always had a strong focus on children – the most innocent victims of poverty. That’s why we couldn’t help but notice that the Vatican has released a new statement about our Catholic duty to help children in need, and how this Advent and Christmas season should serve as a reminder of that holy calling:
True Gratitude
The Gospel reading at Sunday’s Mass hit home to those of us who work at Cross International Catholic Outreach. That’s because Matthew 25:31-46 is a foundational scripture for us—a reminder to see Jesus in every hungry, thirsty, naked, homeless, imprisoned, or impoverished person we serve.

“Where there is no vision, the people perish.” The famous KJV translation of Proverbs 29:18 may invoke nausea as often as inspiration, because so many leaders misapply it to promote their personal agendas.
Rising Food Prices
In case you haven’t already noticed, prices at the grocery store have been going up in the last few months. Food prices worldwide are on the rise this year for a number of reasons, including natural disasters in Russia, Argentina, and Australia, droughts in China, and sky-rocketing oil prices resulting from recent conflicts in the Middle East and North Africa.
Divine Plan for Recovery
Haitians went to the election polls March 20 for the second round of the country’s presidential runoff. Though there was no significant violence or protests, as there was late last year in the first round of voting, the earthquake-shattered country’s future remains uncertain as the people select their new leader.
St. Maarten: Poverty in Paradise
