Divine Calling
After seven years as a nurse in the Philippines, Myrna did not feel fulfilled. Something was missing. She asked the Lord for direction. Should she get married and start a family? Or should she become a nun?

Sr. Marge loves to see little children enjoying their lunch at the Lady of the Star Nursery in the Philippines. These children come from extremely destitute families and begin preschool gravely malnourished. Throughout the year, the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary not only provide early education and a hearty meal, but they also treat many of the children for TB.
Today marks the beginning of what Pope Benedict XVI declares the “Year of Faith. It’s based on Acts 14:27 which says, “…They called the church together and reported what God had done with them and how he had open the door of faith…”
Sr. Irene Clare Duval knew she wanted to be a nun since she was 8 years old, but it wasn’t until she was 48 that she joined the Compassionate Franciscan Sisters of the Poor (formerly the Missionaries of the Poor – Sisters).
Our mission is to mobilize the global Catholic Church to transform the poor and their communities materially and spiritually for the glory of Jesus Christ. Your gift empowers us to serve the poorest of the poor by channeling life-changing aid through an international network of dioceses, parishes and Catholic missionaries. This cost-effective approach helps break the cycle of poverty and advance Catholic evangelization.
