Cuilapa is a town for the ears. A town of dogs barking, roosters crowing, horns blasting, fireworks bursting, loudspeakers blasting, and upbeat music pumping. It’s also a town of bells—great brass bells that ring loud and long and joyous as street vendors close their food stands and evening draws near.
One Meal Does Make a Difference
The United Nations World Food Programme recently reported that food aid to the world’s poor is at a 20-year low, yet the number of hungry people is at the highest level ever — 1 billion. Part of the problem is countries such as the U.S. have cut back their aid because of economic woes, leaving millions of poor without food.

One out of every seven people on the planet does not get enough food to be healthy and lead an active life. That’s a staggering statistic from the United Nation’s World Food Programme, which recently released a nifty map that charts the depth of hunger around the world.
