Share Hope With Haitian Families

Haiti is the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, with nearly 60% of its people living below the poverty line. Half of the households suffer from food insecurity and malnourishment, and the poorest families live in crumbling homes and are forced to collect contaminated water from unsanitary wells and streams.

Fortunately, the Church is aware of these hardships and through their ministry efforts, hope is being restored to Haiti’s families! For more than 20 years, Cross Catholic Outreach has partnered with Catholic bishops, priests and religious lay workers to improve conditions in some of Haiti’s poorest communities. It’s an effort that has transformed thousands of lives!

One of our in-country partners is Father Glenn Meaux’s Kobonal Haiti Mission. It’s a ministry that has been working hard to meet both the physical and spiritual needs of poor families in the Diocese of Hinche. It does this by providing safe homes where families can live and pray, helping poor children receive a quality Catholic education, constructing water systems that supply safe drinking water, and addressing extreme hunger in the area through the distribution of nutritious foods — all for the glory of Jesus Christ.

With your support, this mission can provide hope to even more families in Haiti!

A Search for Clean Water

Dgadgouvenica Belizar, 10, used to walk to a steep ravine where she would collect contaminated water in a plastic bucket to take home to her family. But thanks to supporters of Cross Catholic Outreach, a hand pump well makes it possible for Dgadgouvenica to drink clean and refreshing water each day.

Your support can end the search for water for Haiti’s children. The Kobonal Haiti Mission builds and repairs community wells that improve the health of entire communities. Give now!

Water

Quench the Thirst of Poor Families

Each morning, poor Haitian families wake up before the sun comes up to collect contaminated water that leaves them suffering from diarrhea, cholera, typhoid fever, giardia, dysentery, hepatitis A and E. coli. But your support will empower our ministry partner, the Kobonal Haiti Mission, to build and repair hand pump community wells.

These wells are a simple technology that are easy to repair and maintain. Water is free, but benefiting families are encouraged to contribute a small membership fee to fund future repairs the water system may require.

Your gift will provide clean water that will prevent illness, improve health and hygiene, and satisfy thirst.

Food

Fill Hungry Stomachs and Heal Hurting Hearts

In recent years, extreme hunger has become a serious problem in rural areas of Haiti. To address this need, Cross Catholic Outreach is shipping Vitafood to our ministry partners across the country. Vitafood is a fortified rice, potato or lentil product designed to meet the needs of malnourished bodies. Supplies of Vitafood, cornmeal, beans and oil help protect the most vulnerable members of the diocese from malnutrition. For many of these villagers, getting these staples is the difference between going hungry and surviving.

Your support will help nourish Haiti’s poorest families in body and soul!

Housing

Safe Shelter Transforms Lives

In rural Haiti, many families live in flimsy structures. Built on a framework of sticks and mud, these patchwork houses are covered with discarded pieces of plastic, old metal sheets or whatever other materials the family can find. These are the only conditions that these families have ever known, but the gift of a safe house can change everything. Homes built by the Kobonal Haiti Mission have a solid cement foundation and walls as well as a galvanized steel roof that will keep families safe and dry during rainstorms.

Education

Invest in the Hearts and Minds of Children

In developing nations like Haiti, it’s common for parents to not be able to afford to enroll their children in school. The cost of tuition, books and uniforms is just too great when they are struggling to put food on the table. But your support can give a gift that will impact children for the rest of their lives: a quality Catholic education.

The Kobonal Mission School serves children in kindergarten through sixth grade, providing them with Catholic education and daily nutritious meals. The Mission’s scholarship program will provide funding for students to go to secondary school and even obtain a college degree. Together, we can equip Haiti’s children for the future with quality Catholic education!

During Lent, Catholics around the world pray, fast and give alms for our brothers and sisters in need. Small sacrifices are just one of the ways that we can follow Jesus’ example of giving his life on the cross to accomplish God’s plan of redemption. When we give alms, we bless the poor, we obey God’s command to care for them, and express our gratitude for the gift of salvation!

Absolutely! Once you select your items, you’ll be given the option of sending an e-card or printing a customizable certificate. These Easter blessings are a fun way to share Christ’s love with others and honor friends and family.

Donations from this campaign will be used to cover any expenditures for the Easter Catalog incurred through June 30, 2023, the close of our ministry’s fiscal year. In the event that more funds are raised than are needed to fully fund the project, the excess funds, will be used to meet the most urgent needs of the ministry.
