Delivering food, shelter, and hope to the poorest of the poor
With Christmas coming, many of us are looking forward to celebrating our Savior’s birth and enjoying large feasts with family and friends. Sadly, for many poor families in Guatemala who struggle to put food on the table, holding a Christmas feast will be impossible. Still, there is hope. You can deliver a miracle this year by providing nutritious food to needy families, ensuring this is a Christmas they will never forget.
Our goal is to supply over 1 million protein-rich meals to families suffering from malnutrition through our partnership with the Diocese of Suchitepéquez-Retalhuleu in southern Guatemala. In addition to providing this food for immediate needs, your gift will also bless families for years to come by supporting an agricultural program that will enable them to grow their own food more effectively.
Food and nutrition are only the beginning of the transformational mission we want to undertake in the diocese. Your support will also share the love of Christ by helping provide safe water, medicine and sturdy homes to poor families in developing countries around the world. Be someone’s miracle this Christmas season! Bless the poor in Guatemala and around the world!
In Guatemala, nearly 60% of people live in poverty, with two-thirds of the population struggling to survive on less than $2 a day. (CIA World Factbook and World Food Programme)
Mired in this poverty, nearly half of children under the age of 5 suffer from malnutrition and stunted growth, and families live in crumbling homes cobbled together with scraps of metal, mud and sticks. They suffer for lack of quality health care too. Medicines and treatments are either inaccessible or unaffordable, leaving families to face serious medical problems without proper care.
Sadly, these same hardships plague poor families in other developing countries around the world as well. They also lack food, clean water, safe shelter, educational opportunities and basic health care.
Fortunately, there is hope. Your support can make a difference and put the Corporal Works of Mercy into action. Be a miracle for poor families in Guatemala and around the world!

Nilson and Deini Alvarez pray daily for God to meet their needs. As subsistence farmers, Nilson and Deini can barely grow enough food to support themselves and can never afford to build a secure home. But that hasn’t stopped them from praying to God for help, and their hope in the Lord remains strong.
“We ask God to send people with good hearts,” Nilson said.
