Catholics Give Water to the Thirsty
U.S. Catholics helped address the water crisis in Ghana, Malawi and Zambia, giving clean water to the poor in 69 communities.
Delivering food, shelter, and hope to the poorest of the poor
Thankfully, devoted Catholic ministries like the Kobonal Haiti Mission are stepping up to address the urgent water and sanitation issues plaguing poor communities. Without clean, abundant water, families around the world struggle just to make it through each day. In addition to thirst, the hardships these families must face without clean water include:
Families fall ill from drinking water contaminated by bacteria, parasites and various pollutants.
Perilous journeys for water put women and children at risk of assault, wild animal attacks and other dangers.
The long search for water leaves little time for school, work, Mass and other meaningful activities.
Within the past year, we have helped our ministry partners complete 37 community water systems and 315 household water systems worldwide, providing 63,438 people with safe water. This year, we are working to raise an estimated $3.6 million to complete vital water and sanitation projects in 10 countries.
Headed by Father Glenn Meaux, the Kobonal Haiti Mission has spent more than three decades relieving the burden on suffering families in Haiti’s Diocese of Hinche. Since 2003, Cross Catholic Outreach has collaborated with the Mission to empower communities through water relief projects and other integral support programs.

Fr. Meaux and his team have worked faithfully — but over the past year, political unrest and the coronavirus pandemic have made it challenging for them to obtain the resources they need.
That’s why we are more committed than ever to standing with the Kobonal Haiti Mission and providing essential support for the families it serves.
Rosemène Alcide lives in Morik, Haiti, with her six children. Before the Kobonal Haiti Mission intervened, she would walk an hour each way to collect water at a distant spring. The task consumed more than two hours every day, and Rosemène describes this wearisome process as “misery.”
