Respond to Urgent Needs in the Caribbean

Hurricane Melissa, one of the most powerful storms in the history of the Atlantic basin, made landfall in Jamaica as a Category 5 storm on Oct. 28, bringing 185 mph winds and heavy rainfall and causing catastrophic damage and widespread power outages across the island nation.

Our Catholic ministry partners in Jamaica, the Diocese of Mandeville and the Compassionate Franciscan Sisters of the Poor, were heavily impacted. These partners experienced significant damage, including structural failures, destroyed schools, washed-out roads, floods, power outages and food supply disruptions that could affect them for months.

Your help is desperately needed. Donate today to enable Cross Catholic Outreach to send food, medicines and housing supplies to our trusted ministry partners in Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

Before Hurricane Melissa, the St. Theresa Kindergarten in the Diocese of Mandeville in Jamaica welcomed young students through its doors.

The storm destroyed the school, causing incredible damage and ripping off its roof. Your support will help rebuild St. Theresa Kindergarten.

After

Our ongoing response includes:

Jamaica – We are shipping food, metal panel roofing, and recovery and medical supplies to the Compassionate Franciscan Sisters of the Poor near Montego Bay. The sisters are currently distributing meals to community members in need. Their convent was also damaged in the storm, so with your help, we can assist them in building a new one. We are also working with the Diocese of Mandeville to rebuild St. Theresa Kindergarten, which was completely destroyed in the storm, and provide ongoing house repairs and construction for storm survivors.
Dominican Republic – Our partners are distributing meals, along with rebuilding and cleaning supplies, clothing, blankets, and over-the-counter cold and flu medicines.
Haiti – Nutritious Vitafood meals are being delivered to the Kobonal Haiti Mission to serve impacted families.

Diocese of Mandeville

Cross Catholic Outreach has worked with the Diocese of Mandeville for more than a decade.
Our projects include house construction, microenterprise and child education.
The diocese is located on the southern coast of Jamaica, which was impacted by heavy storm surge and strong winds.

Compassionate Franciscan Sisters of the Poor (CFSOP)

- Cross Catholic Outreach has worked with CFSOP in Jamaica since 2006, and we currently work with the sisters to support the Hope Teaching Health Clinic in Montego Bay, an area that sustained heavy damages from Melissa.
