Back-to-back storms have devastated Central America. Hurricane Iota slammed into Nicaragua as a Category 4 storm on nearly the same devastating path Hurricane Eta took just two weeks earlier.
Eta’s sustained winds of 140 MPH ripped roofs from homes, uprooted trees and knocked down power lines. Torrential rain, flash flooding and landslides quickly became life-threatening problems across Central America, weakening the region for a second brutal blow by Iota.
As many as 5 million people have been affected, including our Catholic ministry partners serving the poor.
Cross Catholic Outreach is coordinating efforts to deliver much-needed relief supplies, including food and medical aid, to ministries in Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Our supporters have already helped provide:
While we have provided a significant amount of relief aid already, much more needs to be done! Our brothers and sisters have been dealt a double blow, and it will take time and resources to help the homeless, treat the injured and restore lives — especially as the COVID-19 pandemic remains a threat.
That’s why we are calling on U.S. Catholics to unite this #GivingTuesday in support of hurricane-ravaged Central American communities. Together, we can save lives!
Please join us in praying the Protection from Storms prayer and giving generously to deliver immediate aid to our brothers and sisters in need.
Giving Tuesday, often written #GivingTuesday, takes place on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It was started in 2012 as a counterbalance to the Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping frenzy, reminding people to consider the needs of the less fortunate.
Giving Tuesday is a great opportunity for Catholics to come together in a big way and show they are united in their compassion for the poor and their willingness to act. It reinforces the true spirit of the holiday season, and it helps raise awareness of urgent needs and what the Church can do to make a difference.
Cross Catholic Outreach supports a network of parishes, dioceses and other partners throughout Central America in their efforts to serve the poor and vulnerable. When natural disasters strike, we turn to that network to quickly and effectively provide aid to those who need it most. Currently, in response to the hurricane crisis, Cross Catholic Outreach is rallying U.S. Catholics to deliver much-needed relief supplies, including food and medical aid, to ministries in Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
We consider every gift we receive to be a precious resource from God. We direct every donation to its intended project, provide honest and accurate reports to our donors, and keep overhead costs to an industry low. We handle funds with utmost integrity and hold our ministry partners in the field to the same high standards by asking them to document costs and the impact of their outreach.

Our mission is to mobilize the global Catholic Church to transform the poor and their communities materially and spiritually for the glory of Jesus Christ. Your gift empowers us to serve the poorest of the poor by channeling life-changing aid through an international network of dioceses, parishes and Catholic missionaries. This cost-effective approach helps break the cycle of poverty and advance Catholic evangelization.
Proceeds from this campaign will be used to cover any expenditures incurred through June 30, 2021, the close of our ministry’s new fiscal year. In the event that more funds are raised than needed to fully fund the project, the excess funds, if any, will be used to meet the most urgent needs of the ministry.
