Associate Director of Gift Planning


Gift Planning (Planned Giving)

Reports To:

Senior Director of Gift Planning

Position Summary:

The Associate Director of Gift Planning is responsible for working with the Senior Director and department staff to implement a nationwide and comprehensive Planned Giving program through effective identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects, donors, advisors and attorneys. The focus is to build long-term relationships through trust and understanding of customer interests, passions and values. This position will work remotely or be located in Pompano Beach, FL.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Relationship Management (40%)

  • Act as primary relationship manager in soliciting and obtaining planned giving commitments to reach or exceed annual goals
  • Manage portfolio of individual prospects, donors, advisors, and attorneys
  • Meet or exceed the expected level of customer activity each period, e.: number of calls, asks, correspondence, visits, etc.
  • Monitor and uphold standard operating procedures for organization and department related to donor records and accurate documentation of all interactions with donors

Department Leadership (40%)

  • Assist Senior Director to develop strategies for planned giving initiatives
  • Serve as a planned giving subject matter expert and resource to front line fundraisers, and provide coaching and strategies to secure planned giving commitments
  • Assist in creating planned giving communications and solicitations in collaboration with other departments
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to plan and execute a thoughtful stewardship program for committed planned giving constituents
  • Serve as primary department liaison for development issues
  • Oversee database records management and documentation in collaboration with Donor Program Services
  • Execute annual marketing plan and work with Marketing Department to develop strategies
  • Remain current on developments in estate, noncash assests, and gift planning field

Special Interest Projects (20%)

  • Work with Senior Director and Donor Program Services to implement policies and procedures to increase planned giving engagement
  • Work with Senior Director to create channels to cultivate and steward planned giving donors
  • Spearhead special planned giving projects as they are assigned by Senior Director
  • Represent department in meetings when necessary

In addition, participate in spiritual development through morning book/bible studies

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Require/Preferred:

  • Commitment to Catholic fundraising principles
  • Commitment to professional ethics in working with highly confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a department team
  • Experience in gift planning programs and/or development campaigns
  • Ability to effectively communicate CCO’s mission and goals to prospects, donors, advisors and attorneys
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and resolve problems quickly
  • Ability to respond adeptly to changing priorities and to work well under pressure
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, in English, and preferably also in Spanish
  • Database management skills and proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout the United States and occasionally to other countries for meetings and visits

Experience Requirements:

Minimum eight years of successful fundraising experience in a non-profit organization, preferably in planned giving, or equivalent experience in a related field.

Education or Certification Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
