Encounter Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Kenya
Deepen your Lenten observance through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving

This Lenten Season, Cross Catholic Outreach is partnering with Fr. Francis in Meru County, Kenya to provide food, safe shelter, and Catholic education to over 1,000 children.

Fr. Francis operates three outreaches: St. Francis Home for boys, St. Clare Home for girls, and the recently added St. Philemon Home for children infected with the HIV / AIDS virus.

We have designed A Faith-In-Action program to help your community engage with the spiritual pillars of Lent while encountering the needs of orphans and vulnerable children.

“ If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. ”
Matthew 16:24

Lenten Activity Guide

For each week, the Lenten Activity Guide includes dedicated reflections based on Sunday Mass readings throughout the 40 days of Lent that culminate in the celebration of Easter. Each week’s activities include readings, verses to memorize, fundraising activities and insightful facts to encounter the needs of Kenya’s orphans and vulnerable children. We encourage you to be creative in your use of this guide, incorporating your own ideas to enrich your experience.

fr. francis ministry in kenya

In 1998, Fr. Francis rescued seven starving, illiterate street children by taking them to his parish for care – the St. Francis Home was born. Fr. Francis’ response to Kenya’s poverty was guided by Christ-like compassion.

Despite his scarce resources, he was eventually able to establish simple but stable homes for the children in greatest need — young street boys, orphans infected with HIV/AIDS virus and undereducated girls struggling under the burdens of poverty and abuse.

Meet the Need

Your gifts will empower three inspirational outreaches — St. Francis, St. Clare and St. Philomena Homes in Kenya — helping more than 1,000 orphans and vulnerable children with food, education, safe shelter and Catholic instruction. Your financial support is critical to rescuing children from the bonds of poverty.

Change lives this Lent with a gift of:

People are fighting because they don’t have love. Families are breaking because there’s no love. Children are suffering because there is no love. So I teach love, and love wins. ”

Proceeds from this campaign will be used to cover any expenditures for this project incurred through June 30, 2020, the close of our ministry’s fiscal year. In the event that more funds are raised than needed to fully fund the project, the excess funds, if any, will be used to meet the most urgent needs of the ministry.
