In countries such as Kenya many families are dealing with the devastating consequences of water scarcity — but the Church is working to make a difference! Together, we can empower Catholic leaders to provide clean water and improved sanitation for communities suffering from water scarcity and waterborne diseases.
To address the water issues plaguing poor communities, Cross Catholic Outreach is working with trusted ministry partners, like Father Fabian Hevi and Good Samaritan Water and Sanitation Services in Kenya.
President, Cross Catholic Outreach
Jim Cavnar and a small group of colleagues launched Cross Catholic Outreach to support parishes and ministries that directly serve the world’s poor in their own communities. Jim’s career spans more than four decades in ministry management and leadership. Since it’s conception two decades ago, Cross Catholic Outreach has grown from a fledgling enterprise to a Vatican-endorsed charity in dozens of countries.
Almost one-third of Kenya’s population does not have access to clean, safe water (CIA World Factbook). Children suffer from drinking contaminated water, and the exhausting chore of collecting water leaves them with little time for school and catechism. Water scarcity perpetuates poverty, keeping families sick, exhausted and unable to engage in meaningful activities.
Listen to Dorah Wakio Mwakuja, a student in Sagalla, Kenya, speak about her struggle to find clean water.
Fortunately, Catholic leaders like Fr. Fabian, are aware of these hardships and are stepping forward to help. Working together as the Church, we can help finance the labor and materials required to install wells and provide vital training that will transform thousands of lives. Over the past year, Cross Catholic Outreach’s water relief efforts have blessed many lives — but there is still more work to be done. For thousands of people in need of safe water, your support will mean the difference between sickness and health, stagnation and progress, and even death and life.
Cross Catholic Outreach and Fr. Fabian are working toward the day when no children will risk their health or safety to quench their thirst. For six years, our water projects contributed to rapid transformation in the Diocese of Lodwar. Today, we are working on a long-term campaign to share that same blessing with the Archdiocese of Mombasa and the Diocese of Machakos in southern Kenya.
Cross Catholic Outreach begins working with Fr. Fabian to provide clean water for the Turkana in Lodwar, Kenya.
27 communities and 83,000 Turkana people are blessed in Lodwar. Fr. Fabian founds Good Samaritan Water Sanitation Services to continue work in other regions of Kenya.
Good Samaritan Water Sanitation Services starts working in the Archdiocese of Mombasa and Diocese of Machakos in southern Kenya.
The ministry completes six water systems to serve 50,724 people in southern Kenya. Cross Catholic donors provided clean water for 10 more communities.
To date, Cross Catholic donors helped install 31 water systems in southern Kenya, blessing 269,871 people with clean water.
With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.

Proceeds from this campaign will be used to cover any expenditures incurred through June 30, 2022, the close of our ministry’s fiscal year. In the event that more funds are raised than needed to fully fund the project, the excess funds, if any, will be used to meet the most urgent needs of the ministry.
When you include Cross Catholic Outreach as a beneficiary in your will, trust, retirement account or life insurance policy you will make a difference for poor communities by meeting both material and spiritual needs for generations to come. Create Your Legacy!
