Bishop Sevilla, born in California, started as a Jesuit seminarian in California in 1953. He obtained a Master’s degree in philosophy at Gonzaga University and a Master’s degree in theology at Santa Clara University.
He was ordained a Jesuit priest in San Francisco, California in 1966. He did further studies in Austria and France. As a priest, he taught at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and was involved in the spiritual formation of Jesuit seminarians and priests.
Bishop Sevilla was ordained an auxiliary bishop of San Francisco in 1989 and served as the Bishop of Yakima, Washington, one of the poorest dioceses in our nation, from 1997 until the end of May 2011 when the new bishop of that diocese was installed.
Cross Catholic Outreach is happy to have Bishop Sevilla continue his compassionate ministry by preaching to help the poorest of the poor it serves.
