Fr. Iacona was born in the hills of Montelepre, Sicily, near Palermo, but his family left for a better life; first to Canada then to the U.S. He grew up in Detroit where he began his professional career as a teacher, lawyer and CPA. His career path led to the “good life” but he hungered for more, which led him to the inner city of Indianapolis working with the poor, seniors and widows. A few years later, he gave everything to the poor and joined the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, founded by St. Anthony Mary Claret, known as the “Claretians.”
Fr. Iacona was ordained on January 4, 2002. Father has served the Claretians in Stone Mountain, GA, Perth Amboy, NJ, Springfield, MO, Chicago and Los Angeles, with various short-term assignments in the Caribbean and Central America. More recently, Father Iacona also served the Diocese of St. Augustine at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Ponte Vedra Beach, St. Patrick in Gainesville, and Our Lady of Good Counsel in St. Augustine.
As an itinerant preacher, he strives to raise funds for the poor and to awaken the Christ in those in the pews. His guide and spiritual quest: Peace and joy, by affirming and giving thanks for the blessings in each of us. As it is said, “No God, no peace. Know God, know peace. To know God, look for the good in you and others.”
