Cross Catholic Outreach has been called into rural Guatemala to manifest Christ’s presence among the poor. Here, generations of families have suffered under the crippling weight of poverty with little hope for the future. The challenges are many. The poorest of the poor operate in survival mode, dwelling in dilapidated shacks with little or no access to clean water. Children face barriers to education – their best escape from poverty – and one in two suffers from chronic malnutrition. With limited economic opportunity, men feel compelled to leave in order to find jobs, leaving women in precarious positions.
Together with Father Raúl Monterroso we are strengthening the Diocese of Santa Rosa de Lima’s outreach to the poor. We are extending God’s mercy to meet the present challenges by providing educational opportunities, constructing homes for the needy, delivering safe water programs, and improving the economic development and self-sufficiency of the region.
You can transform lives in Santa Rosa and other impoverished communities by contributing to the global ministry of Cross Catholic Outreach today.
When we respond to God’s generosity, lives are transformed. Cross Catholic Outreach donors Bill and Cynthia Pressprich responded to God’s generosity in their lives by contributing to the transformation of Santa Rosa. In visiting the diocese, Bill and Cynthia were touched deeply by what they saw, including witnessing the incredible joy of the people in the midst of poverty.
For more than a decade, Fr. Raúl has helped lift many out of extreme poverty; but he still feels called by God to do more!
The headquarters for the Diocese of Santa Rosa de Lima is located in Cuilapa, about 40 miles southeast of Guatemala City. The city itself has a population of about 20,000 people and is surrounded by dozens of poor farming communities.
Families in Santa Rosa and around the world have struggled under extreme poverty for generations. Unable to afford decent housing, families are forced to live in primitive shacks often without running water, electricity or even latrines.
A safe home can be the first step in a path out of poverty. When you help bless a family with a safe home, your loving gift will help restore their hope, give them greater dignity, and help break the cycle of poverty in which so many are trapped.
The best way to break the vicious cycle of poverty is through education. In impoverished communities like Santa Rosa, children face several barriers preventing them from staying in the classroom.
Poor families are often forced to pursue basic survival over investing in their child’s future. Your support of Cross Catholic Outreach’s education programs will provide poor children with access to education, a better future and a reason to hope.
Water is crucial to survival, but poor families in the developing world lack access to its refreshing, life-sustaining power. In Santa Rosa, villagers waste precious time and energy gathering water from potentially contaminated sources.
Your help is essential for critically-needed water programs in developing countries. By supporting Cross Catholic Outreach’s clean water programs, you can quench thirst and give life to suffering families everywhere
Poverty can be so extreme in places like Santa Rosa that it forces families apart. With limited economic opportunity, men may have to leave their homes in order to find work to support their families. Lasting change is needed to transform these communities.
By empowering poor communities like Santa Rosa, we can improve self-sufficiency and keep families together. Your support of micro-finance, agriculture programs and other forms of economic stimulants can help break the cycle of poverty that ensnares Santa Rosa and many other communities.
Fr. Raúl has often said that in Santa Rosa there are two objectives — to defeat poverty and to bring people to Jesus Christ. As a Catholic ministry, we believe these two components work hand-in-hand.
Now is your chance to help free places like Santa Rosa from the clutches of poverty. Together we can provide transformation through safe housing, clean water, access to education, and empowerment to impoverished people and their communities. Your generous gift to Cross Catholic Outreach supports integral human development and empowers the Church and her people to be the hands and feet of Christ to the poorest of the poor.
Our mission is to mobilize the global Catholic Church to transform the poor and their communities materially and spiritually for the glory of Jesus Christ. Your gift empowers us to serve the poorest of the poor by channeling life-changing aid through an international network of dioceses, parishes and Catholic missionaries. This cost-effective approach helps break the cycle of poverty and advance Catholic evangelization.
Proceeds from this campaign will be used to cover any expenditures for this project incurred through June 30, 2020, the close of our ministry’s fiscal year. In the event that more funds are raised than needed to fully fund the project, the excess funds, if any, will be used to meet the most urgent needs of the ministry.
