Aggressive expansion

Until recently, this entire wing of the Santa Maria de Huachipa school did not exist. The high demand for education in this bleak Peruvian slum has forced continuing, rapid expansion. Case-in-point: student enrollment has jumped from 650 to 900 in just one year!

The new section includes classrooms, offices, a chapel, and a hidden surprise on the inside wall of the walkway. Among the desert landscape, it was jarring to suddenly come face-to-face with a brightly-painted mural of blue skies and green earth, forming the backdrop to a mounted statue of the ascending Christ – a vivid sign of our salvation from the “thorns and thistles” of the curse (Gen. 3:18).

Fr. Garin and the dedicated staff at Santa Maria de Huachipa are bringing real hope to the children of Jicamarca, Peru, and they couldn’t have done it without the generous support from our faithful Cross Catholic donors!
