We just received this update from Alvaro Ubilla, project manager for our ministry partner Amigos for Christ. With the help of Cross Catholic Outreach, thousands of people living in 14 rural Nicaraguan villages now have access to safe water.
When traveling in the developing world, the first rule you learn is “Don’t drink the water!” I can attest from personal experience that our pampered first-world immune systems don’t stand a chance against the parasites and bacteria that infest everything from drinking fountains to that bad piece of lettuce you ate for lunch.
God is doing great things in Nicaragua! Since last fall, 551 families have been rescued from chronic dehydration and the threat of waterborne illness – thanks to the tireless work of Cross Catholic Outreach ministry partner Amigos for Christ. And now, trenches are being dug and pipe is being laid so that hundreds more will enjoy virtually unlimited access to clean water.
I don’t need to tell you about the Black Friday mayhem of crazed shoppers, big bargains, long check-out lines, and subsequent buyer’s remorse (or in my case, a quiet day at home putting up Christmas decorations).
I snapped this photo as I was being swarmed by a pack of school boys on a playground in rural Nicaragua, where Cross Catholic is working with Amigos for Christ to build clean water systems for the poor.
