As I watched the little girl devour the hot meal in front of her, she heaped big spoonfuls of seasoned rice into her little mouth and chewed joyously. She made almost imperceptible “hmmm” sounds as she ate. It was obviously a very enjoyable meal!
During a recent staff gathering, Jim Cavnar, president of Cross International Catholic Outreach, gave a retrospective of 2009. We marveled at how God blessed our ministry, especially during these tough economic times.
Every year the U.S. Census Bureau collects data on the nation’s Christmas spending habits. A few of this year’s stats: $16.6 billion. Number of cards, letters, and packages the U.S. Postal Service will deliver between Dec. 1 and Christmas this year. $4.3 billion. The value of U.S. toy imports from China between January and August 2009 to stock stores for Christmas.
Though we are an international organization, Cross International Catholic Outreach occasionally finds the opportunity to reach out to those in need in our own community. This month we’ve partnered with St. Maurice Catholic Church to distribute 21,000-pounds of Thanksgiving food supplies to hundreds of the poor in South Florida.
