Our Haiti projects officer, Mike Henry, has been working diligently with other relief agencies over the last two days to bring aid to earthquake victims. Mike visited Leogane today, one of the worst hit areas just outside of Port-au-Prince, and he said almost nothing was left standing.
Feet on the Ground in Haiti
Haiti is still reeling from the devastating earthquake that shook much of Port-au-Prince and the surrounding areas to their foundations on Tuesday, but there is hope. People continued to gather in the streets of the capital today, singing hymns and offering prayers to God, as help began to arrive.
Devastating Earthquake: Haiti Needs Our Help
Reports have been trickling in all day from our staff and mission partners in Haiti. The devastation from yesterday’s 7.2-scale earthquake has been profound. “It looks like Dante’s Inferno. There are dead bodies everywhere,” said Mike Henry, our Haiti projects officer who is on the ground in Port-au-Prince today, working with our partners to bring aid to the people.
Philippines: Health Crisis After Typhoons
We’re grateful to all our supporters who have responded to our Disaster Relief campaign for the flood-ravaged Philippines. The crisis may no longer be a front-page headline, now that weeks have passed since typhoons Ketsana and Parma swept through the country, but much work remains to be done.
Hope in the Storm
We reached out to several of our ministry partners in the Philippines and Vietnam over the last few days to see if they were OK after the devastating floods caused by Tropical Storm Ketsana. So far, we’ve only heard back from one of them — please continue to pray.
Clouds on the Horizon
Hurricane season is just getting underway, and new storms are stirring in the Atlantic. Our prayers go out to our ministry partners in Haiti, that there won’t be a repeat of last year’s devastating floods, which destroyed houses and roads, claimed hundreds of lives, and caused a massive humanitarian crisis.
