This Friday is World Food Day, a time for those of us who have been blessed with material prosperity to pray for – and do something about – those who cannot afford to feed themselves or their families.
Uganda’s Plug for Purity
When an Islamic primary school invites a Catholic teacher to speak to its students, you know there’s got to be an incredibly compelling reason. In Uganda, that reason is AIDS prevention.
Hope in the Storm
We reached out to several of our ministry partners in the Philippines and Vietnam over the last few days to see if they were OK after the devastating floods caused by Tropical Storm Ketsana. So far, we’ve only heard back from one of them — please continue to pray.
Humbled in Haiti
A small group of staff members just returned from Haiti. They were so moved by their experience, they had a hard time holding it together as they spoke to the rest of us about it.
One Meal Does Make a Difference
The United Nations World Food Programme recently reported that food aid to the world’s poor is at a 20-year low, yet the number of hungry people is at the highest level ever — 1 billion. Part of the problem is countries such as the U.S. have cut back their aid because of economic woes, leaving millions of poor without food.
Famine in Kenya
Please remember to keep our Kenyan ministry partners and their communities in your prayers. The situation there is truly dire. A severe drought is sweeping across the eastern African nation, crippling its agriculture-based economy and leaving entire villages without water.
